My name is Nana. I have various interests: I like
philosophy, theater, and religion. I studied in a technical
university and have an M.A. degree. However, it does not give me
the feeling of freedom, neither creative nor emotional. The huge
amount of energy inside me requires always something different,
changeable as nature itself. On day I accidentally found flax and
started to tie knots. What have come out of it? Macramé or
something of a kind, I am not sure how to call it exactly. But the
knots I make give me enormous energy that I, in turn, pass on to
my works.

I
learnt from the encyclopedia that each knot has its own story, its own riddle.
The history of the knotting is long. It was forgotten for a long time, and then,
like a wind it spread all over the world. After some time it disappeared again
from the scene of the world’s art together with its mysteries. I believe that
when I discover the mystery of a knot, I’ll get freedom I dreamt of all my life.
The chaos that existed in my life changed into the harmony of my works, which I
never copy from models. My hands created the first ornament that I’ve never seen
before on their own will, and it turned to be that this ornament had already
existed – it was engraved on the stone sometime B.C. It was like a sign from
above. For me it meant that I was “doing the right thing”. And then I’ve
discovered a wonderful world to myself! The world I live in now is the world of
trees, quaint plants, emblems and religious symbols, cosmic figures and women’s
accessories. Each of my works possesses the warmth of the sun and positive
energy. The new world I’ve discovered has no place for avidity, envy, conflicts
or nationalism. It is a celebration, the celebration of the knots!
When I’ve progressed further I’ve developed a technique that involves both
engraving on stone, sculpture, and golden thread embroidery.
People seek truth and the only truth is God. I move nearer to God when I work,
because my work is a pray. My dream is to create the sun. The very consideration
of doing it is sinful, but to draw nearer to light is a great joy.
